Disposable plastic food containers are made entirely or partially of plastic. Low cost and convenience of plastic are the main reason for their increase use. Plastic containers are mainly used in fast food, restaurant take out and catering.
Five most common Types of plastic:
1- Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)- PET is the most commonly used material for plastic containers. It is strong, clear and light weight. PET is used for packaging foods and beverages, especially soft drinks, juices and water.
2- High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)- HDPE is known for its high strength to density ratio. It is highly used in the production of plastic bottles.
3- Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)- LDPE is a light weight plastic material, which is soft and flexible. LDPE is knows for its toughness and it is relatively inexpensive to produce.
4- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)- PVC comes in two basic form, rigid and flexible. It is used in variety of applications such as health care, construction, electronics and automobile.
5- Polypropylene (PP)- PP is low cost and flexible and is used in various types of packaging. It has replaced traditional materials such as paper and cellphone.
